Damn this came up in my recommended for some reason and is from 9 ago that is insane to me! I just graduated 5979 schoolhouse in 29 palms this week in 2023 and we’re currently in limbo between the systems that we’re working on. I hit the fleet on my 15th month mark in so the schooling is very long and a 5 yr contract is required but its definitely a solid choice if you’re a computer nerd who wants to do that stuff in the civilian world when you get out.

How long is one workday?

Civil Defense Dose Communications and it helps with Ham Operator Certification. I did this as a Civilian with the Civil Air Patrol Air Force Auxiliary haveing to go through several cuts of certification Alpha - Lima nowdays it's easier you just take your India Cut and your certified to operate off of GRMS frequencies. I was planning to do it with the State Guard Air Wing it's now deactivated and turned over to the Army Component.

Also the the time you'll be on firewatch in recruit training kinda varies, depending on how many recruits you have in your platoon. When I was in, there were around 35 other recruits at that time in my platoon, so we would be pulling 2 hour fire watches every now and then. Sometimes as punishment.

You forgot about the 3rd firewatch recruit. The rover, the recruit who walks around the squadbay counting racks, footlocker, recruits, rifles, rcos, etc.

FOUR months MOS training! (my son is currently in boot camp and this is his selected MOS).

Remember this. "Once A Marine; Always A Marine" isn't always true. You can choose to no longer be a Marine after you get out. Once I realized that, and I chose to no longer be a Marine, my mental health, my over all health, and my life became better. It was like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders.

I was a 13B in the army and worked with the M198. No crap it was a beast, but super fun when we actually got to shoot.
